I am a book lover! When I was introduced to Usborne in January this year, I fell in love. I wanted to buy almost every single book!
But of course, I couldn’t! So I had a little party and got some free books and then I really fell in love. Before Usborne we had a pretty decent library from my teaching years. The majority of these books were all pretty much 25 cent books (or less) from a library practically giving away their old books or from scholastic rewards that I got as a teacher…. With the occasional book that I bought just because I love children’s books.
As a mom, I want my kids to love books as much as I do…. I want to see their eyes light up with wonder as they discover new worlds. Several months before I gave Owen this train book as a birthday present, I could hardly get Owen to focus on books at all. Having Usborne books in our home was literally a turning point for him. The train book showed him how amazing books are and truly brought out a spark of excitement for reading!
That book is still his absolute favorite! But the cool thing is, I’ll see him pick up a random book and read by himself now. I actually have a couple different books about cars and trucks and trains now and of course he favors those ones.
I love when the house goes quiet and I walk into the kid’s rooms to see what kind of mischief they are in and I find them reading to each other! I love it! Those kinds of moments are what I live for!
And that’s why I’ve decided to be an Usborne consultant. Now I’m not really a sales-y person. I’ve tried and failed (desperate times) because as much as I love talking to people, I honestly hate bugging them about buying stuff. BUT… I do have a passion for books and as a consultant I get discounts. Plus, I get the chance to educate people who are interested in books and help them fill their home libraries! Facebook parties are actually really fun and I love looking at and talking about the books. So if you are ever interested in throwing a party and earning free books, I’m here for you!
Usborne books are so unique, colorful and bright and made beautifully! I love that that so many of their books have a little bit of education and fine motor skills woven into them. They make for perfect gifts because they’re not just books!
As a kick-off I’m doing a giveaway for a Shine-A-Light book… These are one of Usborne’s most popular interactive books that you use with a flashlight and light up the pages to reveal hidden parts of the story! How cool is that?

We like to build forts for reading “marathons”. We don’t do this every day for reading time, but on occasion, we will build a fort and leave it up for a day or two with pillows, blankets, and lots of books 🙂

It’s somewhat easy to get my daughter excited about reading because she knows it’s part of her bedtime routine and it’s quality time between her and I! Plus, it helps that she sees me reading for fun so I set the example.
Carisa says
Yes. I love that reading is quality time!

I love Usborne books! I have a few of the baby ones for Penny right now. Her favorites are the touchy feel books, she likes the different textures. We’ve been reading to her since she was born, and now she loves to sit on my lap and turn pages of her board books. I hope it continues when she gets older!!
Carisa says
Yay! I love it when they start to interact with the books!

To get my kiddos excited about reading I just have to get them books about things they are interested in (cars, trains, trucks, ect) or that have fun rhymes or songs!
Carisa says
That’s a great way to get them excited! Thanks Lindsey!

Both of my sons love books that are songs. They like to sing a long with me while we read the book. The current favorite is Baby Beluga.
