Growing up I don’t really remember baking cookies at Christmas. But I always thought it sounded like a fun tradition.
The last couple years I’ve wanted to add it to our advent. A couple years ago I convinced my mom to bake cookies with Lanae and she loved it. So this year, Lanae and I made a big ol’ batch of sugar cookies.
We rolled them out, cut them with cookie cutters, baked them and decorated them. It was a blast! This recipe is pretty huge, so we were actually able to bake cookies 3 different times, share some with friends and neighbors and still have some left over!
So what do you do with left over sugar cookie dough?
Make Peppermint Kissed Sugar Cookies!
I just cut these out with a lid from a baby bottle so that they would be cute little circles.
Baked them, topped them with my favorite cream cheese frosting and a peppermint kiss! Oh they are so festive and delicious!
- 3 cups sugar
- 2 cups butter
- ½ cup sr. cream
- 4 tsp. Vanilla
- 4 eggs
- 7 cups flour
- 1 tsp cream of tarter
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- cream cheese frosting
- peppermint kisses
- Cream together sugar, butter, sour cream and vanilla. Add eggs, mixing well. Add flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt, and mix until combined.
- Cover the dough and refrigerate at least 3 hours, or overnight. This is a very important step!
- Roll dough out on a floured surface and cut into shapes, using cookie cutters (or a ring from a canning jar lid for circles.)
- Bake @ 375 for 7-8 mins. Frost with your favorite frosting and top with peppermint kisses!
Don’t they look so pretty on a plate?
