When my friend Janice started doing Jamberry nails I’ll admit I was a little curious. I actually kind of hate painting my fingernails because I’m extremely OCD. One little chip, smudge, bubble and I’m done. I start chipping away at the rest of the nail. Once one nail loses the polish I start to go crazy trying to get the rest of the nails polish free!
So I’m lucky if fingernail polish lasts for more than a day or two. No joke.
On the other hand, I can’t stand NOT having polish on my toes. Must have something to do with my fear of feet… I think my toes look like aliens and I guess fingernail polish helps me not cringe when I look at them.
Most of the time I only paint my nails if I’m doing Lanae’s too. Then its a bonding experience for the both of us… 🙂
I think I’ve gotten off topic a little bit! I was definitely curious about Jamberry nails so I asked my friend if I could try out a few samples. She was super nice about it and sent me a couple different kinds to try out. I was extremely excited about it!
I ended up searching for tips to apply the nails so I could do it just right. I found this great video tutorial put together by Jamberry that explains how to do it perfectly. They also have written instructions there, too. In the video they use a little heater designed specifically for the nails, but you can heat up the wraps with a simple blow dryer as well.
This is basically how it works:
(steps pulled from Jamberry)
Step 1. Clean and prep your nails like you normally would before painting them.
Step 2. Match up your nail to the wrap that fits the best. For me, my options were pretty limited since I only had the 2 samples. One of them fit my pointer finger and the other fit my middle finger… so that’s what I did!
Step 3. Peel the plastic off the nail wrap and warm it with a heater/blow dryer for just a couple seconds until it is soft and flexible.
Step 4. After its warm, press the wrap onto the nail and apply pressure around the edges. Make sure it seals.
Step 5. Trim off the top with scissors and file down the remaining wrap using a downward motion to remove excess.
Step 6. Apply heat and pressure to the wrap again until it is bonded to the nail.
I had a few problems applying the first nail. My blow dryer is pretty much dead… And I couldn’t get it to blow hot air at first. So my first wrap wasn’t all the way heated up/flexible. The wrap sealed on the bottom and on one side, but there was a small bubble on the other side that I couldn’t get to seal. It actually lasted for a whole week even with the tiny bubble on the side. I think the only reason I tolerated the bubble was the fact that it had such a pretty and intricate design and it made me smile when I looked at my fingers.
There was a quick learning curve. After the first nail, I applied the other 3 wraps. They all sealed perfectly and I filed them down. Then I just sat and admired them. I felt like such a modern, chic and beautiful mom! You can tell I don’t get out much 😉
Pretty, huh? I loved the flowered one.
The crazy thing is that the wraps still looked practically perfect after 2 whole weeks. Which is insane for me. Seriously… I chipped off my purple polish and re-applied it halfway through the two weeks because it was bugging me… This is a picture after 2 whole weeks & 2 applications of the purple nail polish.
