We love playdough around here! I made Lanae a sparkly, purple playdough over a year ago and it is still soft and super fun to play with.
Homemade playdough has a really long shelf life if you store it properly in a sealed container!
We are about ready to begin our ABC practice and I wanted to have some nice and new playdough in fun colors to make the learning activities a little more fun!
So we decided to try out coloring with kool-aid instead of the traditional food coloring that we’ve always done.
I love how the colors turned out.
And the very first thing Lanae said was that is smelled so good! Like grapes!!
Yep, she went straight for the purple.
- 1 cup flour
- ⅔-1 cup water
- 1 Tbsp canola oil
- ¼ cup salt
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 packet of kool-aid
- Combine water and oil in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
- Once the water is boiling, add it do your dry ingredients, stir it around until it coats and is starting to mix in.
- Transfer mixture to the table and knead it until it reaches a playdough like consistency. You may need to add a little flour after it cools down a bit if it is still sticking.
- If you add too much flour, it will dry out quickly, instead of remaining soft and easy to play with!
Now we have playdough for days!!
Fun colors of playdough also make for a great gift! We got these tiny square tupperware at the Dollar Tree. Which makes it super easy to give away!
