We got into the Christmas spirit early this year and I loved having all the decorations out and listening to my tunes all season long!
I just wanted to reflect on some of my favorite projects and when I was looking back through my pictures I realized I haven’t shared these cute little Christmas pillows I made.
Last year I made these adorable giant Christmas stockings. I loved picking out the fabrics for this project… some I loved so much that I may have gotten a bit extra for other unknown projects down the road.
I decided to make some matching pillow covers with my leftover reindeer fabric and they added the perfect pop of Christmas in my living room!
We made so many amazing memories this Christmas as a family and these pillows also ended up in a ton of my favorite pictures as props for the same effect… a pop of festivity!
Here are some of the special appearances made by these pillows!!
The first one was this fun Christmas Campout. My family loves camping, so an evening campout celebration by the Christmas tree was absolutely perfect. This is our second year doing this tradition and I think we’ll keep it! You can read more about our tradition on The Dating Divas!
I shared this DIY Christmas Teepee on Andrea’s Notebook and the kids absolutely loved playing with it all season long!
This was our first year having a Polar Express Night and it was probably one of the most fun traditions we’ve done! We had some friends over, a hot cocoa bar and played some fun Polar Express games before we finished out the night watching the movie The Polar Express! I wrote a post with all the details on The Dating Divas.
And of course, the pillows had to make an appearance in our Christmas photos this year!
We had such an amazing Christmas with so many memories made! I’m so glad we had these fun pillows along for the ride!
And if you really just want to know about the pillow cover… here’s what I did:
- Choose your fabrics!
- Hem the two short ends of the rectangle 1 1/2 inch. Make sure to press before starting to sew. Straight stitch twice. Once on each side of the hem with 1/4 inch seam allowance. This will look pretty and provide a good solid hem.
- If you want to do some kind of embellishment like the chevron strip, you’ll do that now. All I did was take 2 strips of fabric, 2 x 14 and then 14 inches of ric rac. I sandwiched the ric rac between the strips with the fabric right sides together and sewed a straight stitch. I did this on both sides to create a tube and then flipped it right side out and pinned it where I wanted it on my pillow.
- Once both ends are hemmed, lay your fabric down, fold one short end toward the center of the rectangle right sides together. The length of the fold should be about 8 inches, but make sure the heart is centered! Fold the other end over the top. This should also be about 8 inches and will overlap with the other folded edge.
- Press and pin your edges so that they don’t shift while you are sewing. Sew your pillowcase shut with a straight stitch using 1/2 in seam allowance. Turn the pillowcase right-side-out! Press again. Voila! You’re done!
Happy Christmas!
