As the weather is warming up, I was so excited to have a lesson that would take us outside!
So T is for Turtle! We had so much fun learning more about turtles! We learned that there are different kinds of turtles, headed to the park, watched Finding Nemo and enjoyed making some turtle food art…
The kids are easily excited by animals and we love heading to the park with all the turtles. And since its been a cold and rainy winter, we haven’t gone for several months.
Yay for some warm weather and a little bit of sun. We headed to the turtle pond and checked out all the turtles. They were actually lined up on the shore. I had never seen so many turtles lined up all in a row.
Getting out always makes the kids (and me) so happy!
The food art was actually kind of a spontaneous thing. I had mentioned food art to the kids at the beginning of the week and we had looked at some pictures of turtle food art online together, but I hadn’t planned on doing any.
Then at lunch one day, the kids asked if we could make food art. I thought about saying no since I had already started grilled cheese and then decided we could turn the grilled cheese sandwiches that I was making into turtles by adding a few pickles. It was a simple fix.
We talked more about turtles and what we saw when we went to visit the turtles at the pond and our food art expanded from there… with what we had on hand!
So we had bell pepper and avocado flowers, grapes for rocks and eggs for the ground. And of course, a cheesy sun.
Don’t mind the pictures… since it was not planned, these were just taken with my phone. But you get the picture!
This was seriously so fun! The kids loved it! Now I definitely wouldn’t do this every day or even every week… The kids definitely wish I would. They asked for food art the next day, but I told them it was a special thing that we only do every once in a while!
