Happy Halloween!! Wouldn’t these mummy cake balls be the perfect creepy treat for the festivities!?
We’ve been showing our kitchen a lot of love this month when it comes to delicious crafty treats.
I am sharing these creepy little cake balls over on ALL THINGS MAMA.
They were seriously so fun to make and the kids were giddy with excitement… or full of chocolate… or something.
While we were making them Lanae says mom, what are we making anyways?
I said Mummies, sweety.
What’s a mummy?
Uuummmmmmmmm…. good question. Let’s see. It’s a dead person that’s all wrapped up (in my head I’m thinking this is awful, why am I trying to even explain this to a four year old, she’s gonna be scarred)… but it’s not scary, you only see them at Halloween and they aren’t even real.
Creeeeeeeeeeepy!
I guess I could’ve gone into detail about Ancient Egypt and the pyramids and stuff. But I think that would’ve been a little over her head. And of course, I didn’t think about that in the moment.
Halloween is such a weird holiday.
Anyway! Let’s get down to business.
- 1 box cake mix (I used devil's food cake)
- 1 can frosting (I used cream cheese)
- 2 bags melting chocolate (I used white)
- candy eyes
- Prepare your cake according to the package directions. Let cool and crumble.
- Mix crumbled cake with frosting and form into 1 inch balls. Place in the freezer for at least a half hour. They are so much easier to work with when they are firm.
- Melt the chocolate until it is a good spreading consistency. Place each ball on a straw, skewer or stick and spoon chocolate over top or roll the cake ball in the chocolate.
- Carefully place on a plate and immediately place the eyes on. The kids love helping with this part!
- Fill a bag with white chocolate and ribbon the chocolate over the face of the mummy however you like.
- Let harden and cool in the fridge!
Looks yummy inside! If I were to do this again… I would definitely make sure my outer layer of white chocolate wasn’t as thick! Theses babies were rich and thick.
It was so funny watching the kids try to eat the cake balls on the stick! I eventually just told Owen that he would be more successful if he just put the stick down and picked up the mummy.
Here are some of our other favorite Halloween activities!
And fun for the kids:
Hope you enjoy this creepy holiday just as much as we do!!
