This breakfast will make your kids happy! At least it does mine. Just saying the name dippy-do makes Lanae start to giggle!
We only have this breakfast one or two times a month to keep it pretty special. But there are so many other things about it that make it special.
To start out, you cut out a little whole in your bread. We use a heart shaped cookie cutter which makes it literally a hearty breakfast!!
We have a nice big rival pan that can hold 4 pieces of toast, plus the hearts. In the picture below, you can see what they should look like right before you flip them!
After making the dippy-do eggs, they will have a heart-shaped egg in the middle and a heart-shaped piece of toast to dip in their dippy egg!
The kids love watching the sauce from the yoke spill out and cover their toast.
This breakfast is super easy, too. It seriously takes less than 10 minutes to cook 4 if you have a nice big griddle. Which feeds our whole family!
Pair your Dippy-do egg with some berries and you have a delicious breakfast!
- 4 slices bread (I used whole wheat)
- 4 large eggs
- salt and pepper
- Heat up a griddle on medium heat. When it's heated, butter or spray with pam lightly.
- Cut out a small heart (or other shape) in your bread. You don't want your shape to be too big. Just a little bigger than the size of an egg yoke.
- Place bread on the griddle and then quickly crack an egg in the middle. The egg yoke should sit right in the whole of your bread.
- Salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook for 4-5 minutes, or until the egg whites are almost cooked through.
- Flip and cook for just a minute on the other side. If you want it to be dippy, you will only want it to cook for about a minute after you flip it. If you cook it too long it will be solid... and no longer dippy-do eggs!
