I have seen this idea for using fingernail polish to marble pots, mugs, vases, etc. floating around all over the internet and I must say that it’s pretty much genius.
Who comes up with these ideas!?
When I couldn’t find the right color and style pot to match our bedroom I decided to try out this DIY marbled pot technique using fingernail polish. It was probably one of the most simple and exciting projects I have done in a very long time. Who knew fingernail polish could have so many uses?
The process is simple. But you might want to grab a test subject to get the hang of it! I practiced on some plastic cups and then again on this little mini vase!
Gather your supplies. Pick a plain white pot… or vase or mug. Different colors of fingernail polish. A tupperware. A skewer, toothpick or large stick. Hot water and a paper towel.
Grab a tupperware that you don’t mind getting fingernail polish all over, because it doesn’t come off easily. It must also be larger than the item you are dipping.
Fill your tupperware with hot water and make sure all your supplies are set in a nice and handy place because you are going to want to move quickly!
Hold your polish pretty close to the surface and gently pour a little polish at a time, if you start slowly and hold it close it won’t float to the bottom but will spread out and look marble-y!
If you need to use your little skewer or toothpick to swirl the nail polish do it quick. I just swirled a bit as I was pouring it in so I didn’t use the skewer.
Dip the pot in quickly and coat with the fingernail polish and quickly pull it out. Let it dry before letting the newly marbled area touch anything! Fill up your pot with something pretty… which I’ve done! You’ll have to wait to see what I filled mine with. Just a quick hint, its adorable!
