I’ve been working on a fun Fall project that has been a huge creative outlet for me! Now I’m excited to share a part of it with you!
Last year, I made my first wreath ever as a part of an up-cycle project. It was fun and so pretty to look at.
I loved coming home and seeing it hanging on my front door. I feel like it gave our house a little piece of personality.
So this year, I decided I wanted to do a Fall wreath with burlap and muslin. As I was walking through Hobby Lobby to grab some muslin and burlap, I saw some cute flowers made from burlap and muslin. I have been wanting to make some flowers for fun, so I decided to try my hand at it and see if I wanted to include some pretty flowers.
I didn’t really look up any other tutorials before making them… I just kind of experimented! So I had a couple of funny looking flowers before I finally got the look that I wanted!
Here is what I did to get these adorable twisted muslin and tulle flowers:
Supplies:
Cardboard
Strip of Muslin ~10 to 14 inches
Strip of Tulle ~10 to 14 inches
Twine
Floral Wire
Glue Gun
Instructions:
- Cut out a square piece of cardboard approximately 2×2 in.
- Pick up 1 strip of muslin and 1 strip of tulle. Twist them tightly together and then roll the first inch or two really tight!
- Place a dab of glue in the middle of your cardboard. You could also use felt, but the cardboard makes it super sturdy.
- Put the center of your flower in your glue and hold it for a minute.
- Add some twine really close to the center so that it sticks. Then twist your muslin, tulle and twine while coiling it around the center of your flower.
- Once you have the flower wound to the size you would like, gently lift and glue to the cardboard.
- Cut the cardboard down to size.
- Glue all three materials down in the back.
- Then you can glue a hair clip, floral wire, clothespin or whatever else you want to the back to make the flower functional!
- Ta da! Be sure to admire your hard work!
I attached my flowers to my burlap wreath. You’ll be seeing that soon!
One of my flower experiments yielded these fun and pretty burlap flowers! They are beautiful for a table setting and super easy to make. Check them out….
